The 2022/23 NW BachFest season kicks off May 21 & 22 at Barrister Winery



Northwest BachFest's opening concerts of the season are Saturday and Sunday, May 21 & 22 at Barrister Winery, 1213 W. Railroad Avenue in Spokane. This season celebrates Artistic Director Zuill Bailey's 10th Anniversary with Northwest BachFest. Community engagement activities and special events are being planned throughout the season. The new season begins with guest artists Chee-Yun Kim, violin, and Natasha Paremski, piano, joining Grammy-winning Zuill Bailey, cello, for two performances of duo, solo and trio selections including Beethoven, Chopin, Kodaly, Rachmaninoff, and more. Chee-Yun Kim is celebrated around the world for her flawless technique, dazzling tone and compelling artistry. Natasha Paremski, a frequent soloist with symphony orchestras around the world, is known for her interpretative abilities and powerful mastery of the keyboard. Artistic Director Zuill Bailey is a multi Grammy-award winning, internationally renowned cello soloist, recitalist, artistic director and music educator.

More from NW BachFest - an evening of celebration May 19

A special event celebrating Artistic Director Zuill Bailey's 10th Anniversary and his 50th birthday is Thursday, May 19, 6pm at Barrister Winery. The evening will begin with a Barrister Winery sparkling wine toast followed by a musical program, the Elgar Cello Concerto performed by Zuill Bailey with pianist Archie Chen. A catered dinner will follow. Only 100 tickets will be available, $125 per person including dinner. Barrister Wines will be available by the glass or bottle.

At the MAC: DreamWorks Animation - Movie Matinees



In addition to visiting DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition - Journey from Sketch to Screen, the MAC is also offering DreamWorks Movie Matinees on selected Sundays through August in the E.A. Johnston Auditorium. This Sunday, May 15 is a special screening of Shrek - the first animated feature film to win an Academy Award.

Spokane Symphony offers Free 'Out & About Concerts'



The Spokane Symphony has announced a new series of free 'Out & About Concerts' that will take place in different neighborhoods around the region. The concerts will be held in cafes, restaurants and community centers. They all take place in the late afternoon/early evening on weekdays, to provide an opportunity for something fun to do after work or a way to enjoy a relaxing evening after a long day.

Music Director James Lowe is calling the free 'Out & About Concerts' an 'espresso shot of the classics.' Each concert will consist of about 45 minutes of light classical music from small groups of two to five Spokane Symphony musicians. These concerts are the perfect way for anyone who is interested in classical music to try it out in a casual setting. The musicians will introduce the music, sharing insight into its history and the instruments they're playing.

The Spokane Jazz Orchestra featuring Keleren Millham, at the Bing this Saturday



'The Great American Songbook: Then and Now' with Spokane Jazz Orchestra and Keleren Millham, will feature a blend of classic songs from the canons of jazz and current music, with a performance this Saturday, May 14 at 7:30pm at the Bing Crosby Theater. Keleren performed with SJO two years ago during a concert featuring the music and influences of Sting, which was a big hit. This performance has been in the making since then.

2022 Skyfest at Fairchild AFB this weekend

This year's Skyfest at Fairchild Air Force Base is Saturday and Sunday, May 14 & 15, and features the USAF Thunderbirds, US Navy F-18 Demo Team, Wings of Blue, B-29 'Doc' B-25 'Gumpy', and more. Hours are 9am-4:30pm, aerial performances begin at 12:30pm. Admission is free.

Atari Ferrari and Automatic Shoes play at Brick West fundraiser this Saturday

Brick West Brewing Co. will host 'Pints for Parks' - raising funds and awareness for The Parks Foundation, this Saturday May 14 from 4-9pm. The event, held at the Brick West Plaza in Downtown Spokane, will have a specialty pint glass for sale, and 100% of the proceeds go to The Parks Foundation. Live music from Atari Ferrari and Automatic Shoes, along with booths from local park organizations like Friends of Manito, Spokane C.O.P.S, and Spokane Lawn Bowling Association, among others.

Brick West and The Parks Foundation will also be raffling off prizes, including a Friends of Manito gift card for their annual plant sale, a pair of tickets to any Pavilion concert this season, Brick West merchandise and more. The event starts at 4pm, with live music starting at 6.

Joe Bonamassa coming to First Interstate Center December 2



Guitarist Joe Bonamassa is one of today's top live performers, and is making a stop in Spokane at First Interstate Center for the Arts, on Friday, December 2. Bonamassa has been named 'the world's biggest blues guitarist,' by Guitar World Magazine. On this tour he is backed by a stellar band of legendary musicians, and the set list for this show will feature new songs alongside career-spanning favorites.

Billy Bob Thornton & the Boxmasters at the Bing tomorrow night



The Boxmasters is an American rock band founded in California by Academy Award-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton and J.D. Andrew. They have recorded an impressive and diverse catalogue of music that touches many influences, especially the Beatles, Byrds and Beach Boys, Mothers of Invention, Kris Kristofferson, and more. Performance is this Friday, May 13, 7:30pm at the Bing Crosby Theater.

Nat Geo Live at the Fox May 18



Fox Presents: National Geographic Live - Improbable Ascent on Wednesday, May 18, 7pm at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox. Rock climber and two-time world paraclimbing champion Maureen Beck tried the sport at a young age. Born with one hand, she climbed for the first time after a camp counselor told her she could skip it. She fell in love with the sport, but at the time there was no guide for climbing with one hand, so she figured it out for herself through trial and error. Later she began leading climbers around the world. Maureen was named the 2019 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year. Hear her story as she comes to the Fox this Friday.

Comedian Mike Walters performs at the Wagon Wheel in Nine Mile May 18

Mike Walters is back in the area for a performance at the Wagon Wheel in Nine Mile on Wednesday, May 18. Mike is one of the pioneers of comedy in Spokane since the early 80's, with numerous performances at the Red Lion Tavern, Fat Cats, the Comedy Underground and more.
