Mark O'Connor's 'An Appalachian Christmas' coming to The Fox Dec 10



Mark O'Connor's 'An Appalachian Christmas' album (2011) reached the #1 ranking on Billboard's Bluegrass Album charts and has been in the top five each year since. He will perform at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox on Tuesday, December 10 at 7:30pm.

O'Connor, a Grammy-winning composer and fiddler has created several arrangements of Christmas classics and combines a wondrous mixture of both instrumental and vocal music in bluegrass and other American music genres. Concertgoers are treated to fresh takes on traditional songs with a few original compositions included. The touring musicians with Mark O'Connor include his wife Maggie O'Connor, son Forrest O'Connor, and daughter-in-law Kate Lee O'Connor.

Christmas Tree Elegance is underway



This year's Christmas Tree Elegance continues at the Historic Davenport Hotel and River Park Square through December 15, with a raffle of 18 custom-decorated trees and prizes which include gift certificates, items and cash.

Twelve decorated trees and an Old World Father Christmas sculpture by Elizabeth Raol will grace the mezzanine of the Historic Davenport Hotel. Sales for the Davenport trees and Father Christmas will end at 9pm on Saturday, December 14 with the drawing for winners to follow. Six holiday trees will line the second floor corridor at River Park Square. Sales for the River Park Square trees will end on Sunday, December 15 at 4pm with the drawing to follow.

Holiday luncheons are planned for Tuesday and Wednesday, December 10 & 11 with new music director James Lowe and members of the Spokane Symphony.

The Nutcracker with the Spokane Symphony begins tomorrow



E.T.A. Hoffman's story of Clara and the Nutcracker Prince is brought to life by the Santa Barbara-based State Street Ballet and more than 75 local dancers. Tchaikovsky's beloved score is performed live by the Spokane Symphony. The beautiful Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox is dressed in the holiday spirit. Morihiko Nakahara conducts and Rodney Gustafson is artistic director.

Performances are this Thursday through Sunday, December 5-8. Thursday, Friday & Saturday at 7:30pm and Saturday & Sunday at 2pm. Tickets are available at the Box Office, or by calling 509-624-1200 or at www.spokanesymphony.org.


3rd Annual MAC Holiday Artist Studio Tour this Saturday

This Saturday, December 7 from 9am-3pm, you will have an opportunity to visit seven local artists in their studios on this self-driving tour. See where they create and how they work. Art available for sale. Participating artists are: Hazen Audel, Dean Davis, Kathleen Cavender, Larry Ellingson, Tim Ely, Ira Gardner, Suzanne Ostersmith and Wendy Zupan.

There will be an artists' reception from 3-5pm at Barrister Winery (on Railroad Avenue) with live music from Ron Kieper Jazz, wines for purchase, and a drawing for either a fine art photograph from Ira Gardner or a plein air oil painting lesson from Kathleen Cavender. Reception ticket holders are also invited to the sponsor reception from 5-7pm at Uptic Studios, 152 S Jefferson St #101 (around the corner from Barrister Winery).

BachFest Winter Classics going on now through Dec 8

BachFest Winter Classics, presented by Connoisseur Concert, celebrates Beethoven's 250th Anniversary year with 3 concerts this week, with Beethoven's incredible string quartets, to be performed by the Ariel String Quartet.

Cami Bradley performs with the Spokane Jazz Orchestra this Saturday



The Spokane Jazz Orchestra (SJO) Holiday Concert this Saturday, December 7, 7:30pm at The Bing Crosby Theater, will feature the swinging sounds of Glenn Miller's Nutcracker Suite, as well as Christmas songs from guest artist Cami Bradley. Bradley is a highly-acclaimed Spokane vocalist who was a finalist on Season 8 of America's Got Talent. Miller's arrangement of Tchaikovsky's classic is joyful and fun, and this jazz version features solos and improvisation that separate it from symphonic Nutcracker performances. SJO will be performing some additional holiday selections featuring vocals by SJO musicians and the Ferris Symphonic Choir.

Santa is coming to Ramada Spokane Airport Dec 21

Santa will make an appearance at Ramada by Wyndham at Spokane Airport on Saturday, December 21. 8909 airport Drive, There will be an open house fireside visit with Santa from 11:30am-2pm. Listen to Santa read 'Twas the Night Before Christmas,' and join Mrs. Claus's snowflake workshop.

Optional lunch with Santa is $6 for children 10 and under, $9 for adults. There will also be S'mores kits and marshmallow roasting for $5.

New exhibit at Trackside Studio

Trackside Studio Ceramic Art Gallery at 115 South Adams Street presents Cup of Joy, a group of invitational and sale of over 150 ceramic cups in many styles by 40 artists from throughout the U.S. Artists reception is this Friday, December 6 from 5-8pm. The exhibit continues through January 17, 2020.
