Fall Festival coming to Hayden's New Leaf Nursery this weekend



New Leaf Nursery's second annual Fall Festival is going on this Friday through Sunday, October 11-13 at Highway 95 and Lancaster in Hayden. It features local artisans and vendors, food and drinks, a free petting zoo, pumpkin patch, pony rides, a hay maze, and more.

Mel McCuddin show at The Art Spirit Gallery opens Friday



The whimsical art of Mel McCuddin is at The Art Spirit Gallery, 415 Sherman in downtown Coeur d'Alene, starting this Friday, October 11 through Saturday, November 2. Also showing are Deb Oliva and Dennis Meiners. Doug and Sherry Clark will be there as well, offering their book on McCuddin's art. There's an artists reception Friday from 5-8pm.

Spokane Symphony presents The Music of David Bowie



Join the Spokane Symphony, conductor Martin Herman, vocalist David Brighton, and a full rock band on a symphonic tour that explores the incredible range of David Bowie's music. Includes hits 'Space Oddity,' 'Changes,' 'Under Pressure,' 'Heroes,' 'Rebel Rebel,' 'Fame, and more. Performance is this Saturday, October 12, 8pm at Martin Woldson at The Fox.

David Bowie impersonator David Brighton and Windborne Music's exceptional musicians combine with a full orchestra to present some of rock's most iconic music with the Music of David Bowie performed as you've never heard it before, complete with full rock lighting.

Fireside Music at Arbor Crest begins this weekend

Arbor Crest's Fireside Indoor Music Series begins this weekend and continues Friday and Saturday evenings for the season. Gather round for intimate evenings of live music and wine at the Cliff House Estate. Music runs from 5:30-8pm. This Friday and Saturday, October 11 & 12, guitarist Kosh performs classic rock.

Something new from Arbor Crest and The Murder Mystery Company! On Thursday, October 17, a special Murder Mystery event, 'Best Laid Plans,' and Old Hollywood whodunnit, will take place in the Tasting Room at the estate. Dress in period attire - 1930's or 1940's Old Hollywood! Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served. Doors open at 6pm, and the show runs from 7-9pm. Call Arbor Crest to register at 509-927-9463. There is limited seating, cost is $60 per person.

Model Train Show at the Fairgrounds this Sunday



The fall Model Train Show is this Sunday, October 13 from 9:30am-3:30pm at the Spokane Fair & Expo Center, sponsored by the River City Modelers. The Train Show features several different operating train layouts in various scales from O Scale down to the popular HO Scale and smaller N scale.

Buyers and sellers come from all over the Pacific Northwest. This is a good place to find thousands of items: model trains, toy trains, track, railroad collector's items, photographs, artwork, books and magazines. You never know what you'll find or see. There are toy autos, trucks, bridges, and buildings that go on train layouts and also a variety of train memorabilia from old lanterns to switch locks & keys. Many of the sellers will take time to help newcomers with questions.

Author Shepherd Seigel to appear at Auntie's



Shepherd Siegel is a renaissance man; award-winning author, academic and musician (a former rock and jazz musician). He has written a thought-provoking book called Disruptive Play: The Trickster in Politics and Culture. Its central message is about playfulness and progressive change and profiles tricksters in American society like The Beats, Bugs Bunny, Andy Kaufman, The Grateful Dead and Abby Hoffman among others. It also has a playful prescription for the current polarization in American society. It won second place in the social/cultural category at the EVVY awards that took place in August. His book also received an honorable mention from Foreword magazine for its annual awards.

Seigel will be reading from his book at Auntie's Book Store, 402 West Main, next Wednesday, October 16, from 7-8:30pm.

Miss Saigon opens October 23 at First Interstate Center



Spokane's Broadway season opens at the First Interstate Center on Wednesday, October 23 through Sunday, October 27, with Miss Saigon.

Disney on Ice coming to the Arena October 18-20

Organ concert Thursday evening at First Church of the Nazarene



This Thursday October 10 at 7pm, Walter Strony, twice voted 'Organist of the Year' by the American Theatre Organ Society, will be in concert at Spokane's First Church of the Nazarene, N. 9004 Country Homes Boulevard. He will be playing on the restored Wurlitzer Theatre Organ.

Mr. Strony has performed in hundreds of concerts from coast to coast in the United States, and has toured to Australia, England, Japan & Canada, as well as a solo recital at New York's Radio City Music Hall. In addition to recording over 30 albums, he has authored a book The Secrets of Theatre Organ Restoration, now a standard reference book on this subject.
