Spokane Symphony's 2019-20 Opening Night Gala this Saturday



Celebrate the Spokane Symphony's new Music Director, James Lowe's, inaugural season with an elegant black-tie dinner gala at The Historic Davenport Hotel. The night will include a delicious gourmet meal with wine, live music and brief program followed by the fabulous opening night concert at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox. Funds raised at the event will support the work of the Symphony's Annual Fund and Education Programs. Black tie optional.

Spokane Symphony season opening Masterworks concert this weekend

The Spokane Symphony's 74th season starts this weekend with new Music Director James Lowe. The first concert is Masterworks 1: American Rhythms, on Saturday and Sunday, September 14 & 15 at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox. Selections include George Gershwin's masterpiece, 'Rhapsody in Blue,' with guest pianist William Wolfram, Aaron Copland's Symphony No. 3, and John Adams' 'Short Ride in a Fast Machine.' Don't miss the pre-concert talk by the conductor and guest artist one hour before each performance. Performance times are 8pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday.

There is a special opportunity to meet Music Director James Lowe, this Thursday, September 12, who will give the 'LoweDown' - an in-depth preview on the season opener, Masterworks 1: American Rhythms. This will take place from noon-1:30pm at First Avenue Coffee, 1011 W. 1st Avenue. Maestro Lowe will be joined by orchestra musician Eric Moe (trumpet). Lowe will use music clips and visuals to talk about the concert, and there will be a Q & A session. It's a chance to get to know the new music director, and learn more about this weekend's concert.

This event is free and open to the public.


Diana Krall performs at First Interstate Center September 16



Multiple Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist and world-renowned singer, Diana Krall, comes to Spokane for one performance at the First Interstate Center for the Arts, Monday, September 16 at 7:30pm. Joining Diana on tour is long-time collaborator and friend John Clayton (bass), Grammy Award-winning Joe Lovano (Saxophone) and Karriem Riggins (Drums).

Valleyfest celebrates 30 years September 20-22



Valleyfest's 30th anniversary is Friday through Sunday, September 20-22 at Mirabeau Point Park and CenterPlace Regional Event Center. Food, entertainment, sports, car show, and lots of fun for the whole family.

'What is Hip!' tribute and fundraiser for Soul Proprietor's Ken Martello



Friday, September 20 from 6pm-1am at the House of Soul, 25 E. Lincoln Rd, there's a remembrance celebration, tribute and fundraiser for Soul Proprietor founder, leader and bassist Ken Martello, who passed away from cancer about a month ago. Six of Spokane's best bands will be featured over seven hours, and the evening includes a silent auction, lots of food and dancing.

The music lineup includes Sammy Eubanks, Celebrate with Peter Rivera, Nu Jack City, Ken Martello's Soul Proprietor with Patrice Rose, The Nudge, Step Brothers with Jennifer Kemple, Vance Johnson, and lots of special guests. All proceeds go to the Martello family.

The 12th Annual Little Spokane River Artist Studio Tour is Saturday, September 28, from 10am-5pm. 5 studios, 40 artists in a beautiful setting on the little Spokane River.

Wine on Wall Street Happy Hour tomorrow



This Thursday, September 12, the Cork District presents something new - Wine on Wall Street. Get your weekend started early with the wineries of the Cork District, this is the only time of the year you can experience many of Spokane's award-winning wineries in one location. Entry is $15 with early ticket purchase and $18 at the event. Entry price includes a Cork District wine glass and each winery will be pouring samples of two of their current offerings. Wine on Wall will feature over 30 different wines to enjoy and learn more about our local wineries and their plans for harvest crush which starts any moment. This event runs from 4:30-8pm and is on Wall Street between Spokane Falls Blvd and Main, not Riverfront Park. 21+ only.

Special upcoming events from the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick & Spokane Limerick Sister City Society

The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and the Spokane Limerick Sister City Society have several special events this week, in honor of welcoming a special Delegation from Limerick, Ireland.

Events include: A special lecture on Irish History at Gonzaga University on Thursday, September 12 at 7pm. Installation and dedication of the Limerick Harp in the Sister City Garden at Riverfront Park on Friday, September 13 at 11am. The Irish Harp was created by the late Sister Paula Mary Turnbull, her last piece of art. The Official Delegation from Limerick will participate.

This week's music at Arbor Crest

Tomorrow, Thursday, September 12, Nobody Famous performs starting at 4:30pm, $6 admission. On Sunday, September 15, Ryan Larsen Band returns, performance begins at 4:30pm, $12 admission. There are only a few concerts remaining of Arbor Crest's summer concert series, so don't miss them!

Australian Pink Floyd Show at the First Interstate Center tomorrow



Tomorrow night, Thursday, September 12, The Australian Pink Floyd Show will be at the First Interstate Center for the Arts, show time at 7:30pm. They have performed in over 35 countries worldwide; played at David Gilmour's 50th birthday celebration and were even joined on stage by Rick Wright.
