Dale Chihuly Exhibit opening at the MAC

The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture has announced the opening of three all-new exhibits in the month of February, including its first all-glass exhibition, Luminous, featuring works by the renowned Dale Chihuly. All three exhibits will be available for viewing beginning Saturday, February 23.

Luminous: Dale Chihuly and the Studio Glass Movement features 33 international artists working in glass, including Dale Chihuly. Chihuly has been a leader in the studio glass movement for five decades, exploring new and old techniques and pushing the boundaries of contemporary art. His work is included in over 200 museum collections worldwide and he has been the recipient of multiple awards, including two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Into the Artic - The Into the Arctic exhibition showcases an unprecedented collection of over 60 Arctic oil paintings and three films from Cory Trepanier's four Arctic expeditions to the furthest reaches of the Canadian North, a wilderness so remote and untouched, that many of its landscapes have never been documented before.

The Inuit Art of Povungnituk - The artists in Povungnituk, located in Arctic Quebec, have been recognized for over a quarter of a century for the quality of their print making and their distinctive style. The sculptures and prints chronicle the history and legends of a people. Characterized by crisp images of native animals and human figures set against stark backgrounds, many of the artworks reveal the rituals that have allowed the Inuit people to survive.
