Spokane Selected for 2019 USA Gymnastics Women's Level 9 Western Championships

For the second time in four years, USA Gymnastics has selected Spokane to host the Women's Level 9 Western Championships. After successfully hosting this same event in 2015, youth athletes from across the Western United States will once again be traveling to the Spokane Convention Center May 10-12, 2019 - along with their coaches, families and fans.

A strong local organizing committee is vital to executing this type of high-caliber event. Spokane Gymnastics, a local leader in the sport, and partner on previous gymnastic events, will partner once again with the Spokane Sports Commission.

In addition to developing local gymnastics community, this championship contributes to the local economy through tourism. Coming to this event are approximately 500 gymnasts as well as over 1,200 additional visitors - resulting in 1,500 overnight hotel room night stays. This adds up to an economic impact of $1.7 Million.

Along with the 2015 Level 9 Western Championships, Spokane also hosted the 2014 USA Gymnastics Elite Challenge in Trampoline and Tumbling. Learn more about USA Gymnastics at usagym.org.

EWU 'Eag Nite' is Friday starting at 6pm

Before Eastern Washington University renews its Big Sky rivalry with the University of Idaho on the football field this Saturday, October 27 the EWU Alumni Association is excited to get the weekend going with Eag-Nite, a new Friday night Homecoming tradition for the entire community.

The all new Eag-Nite kicks off at 6pm on Friday, October 26 in downtown Cheney with the annual homecoming parade, pep rally and bonfire. Watch for special appearances from EWU Football Coach Aaron Best, Marching Band, Cheer and mascot Swoop.

Then at 7pm the streets of downtown Cheney will transform into a festive street party complete with live bands and dancing. Eag-Nite guests will enjoy musical performances from Spokane's hottest Latin band, Milonga, followed by a mix of rock, blues and cover tunes from another local favorite, The Usual Suspects. Downtown Cheney will be lit up with merchants staying open until 10pm.

The Friday night lineup is playing off of Eastern's homecoming theme this year, Lights, Camera...Homecoming. And the goal is to get everyone fired up for Saturday's renewed conference battle with the Vandals.

All events are free and open to the public. For information, contact EWU Alumni Relations Director Lisa Cargill at LCargill@ewu.edu or 509-919-1043.

Gonzaga Basketball Legends are coming to the Fox

On Monday, November 5, some of Spokane's biggest legends will come together. Four of the biggest names in Gonzaga hoops history will be at the legendary Fox Theater as The Spokesman-Review and SWX present 'Gonzaga Legends.' Casey Calvary. Matt Santangelo. Dan Dickau. Adam Morrison. They are a part of a special group of Zags who helped turn a small university in Spokane into one of college basketball's elite programs.
