Spokane County Interstate Fair begins Friday



This year's Spokane County Interstate Fair begins this Friday, September 7 and runs through Sunday, September 16. Enjoy great entertainment, including Josh Turner on September 11 and Jeff Foxworthy on September 12, plus Truck and Tractor Pulls, Demolition Derby, Racing Pigs, Rodeo, rides, fair food and more.

Spokane Symphony Classics Season opens this weekend



The Spokane Symphony 2018-2019 Classics concert series begins with The Bohemian Spirit, this Saturday and Sunday, September 8 & 9 at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox. Music Director Eckart Preu kicks off his 'Farewell Season' with a program of blockbuster works, beginning with Smetana's ode to his native land, 'The Moldau'. Washington State native Charlie Albright (pictured above) performs Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto, and the concert concludes with Dvorak's Seventh Symphony.

Charlie Albright, dubbed "one of the most gifted musicians of his generation" by The Washington Post, and was a recognized child prodigy at age 4 1/2. A master of improvisation, he will delight concertgoers with a credenza of his own creation. A pre-concert talk about the music is held one hour before each performance and is free to all ticketholders.

Concert times are 8pm on Saturday, and 3pm on Sunday.

This week at Arbor Crest



On Thursday, September 6, Pink Tango Trio performs smooth, stylish jazz at the Tasting Room Stage, from 4:30-6:30, admission is $5.

This Sunday, September 9, is the Annual Invitational Classic Car Show at Arbor Crest, from 11am-2pm. Admission is free to see this amazing display of shiny automotive beauty! Wine, food and beer available for purchase and music from country-pop-folk singer/songwriter Larry Myer from noon-2pm. Admission is free to the Car Show.

For the Sunday summer concert, Ryan Larsen Band performs at the Cliff House Stage from 4:30-7, admission to the concert is $10.

Manito Plant sale this Saturday



The Friends of Manito Plant Sale is this Saturday, September 8, from 8am-3pm, just East of Gaiser Conservatory in Manito Park. Many of the plants will be marked at up to 50% off their regular price for this fall sale. Among the over 500 varieties of plants on sale are shrubs, vines, grasses, plants for sun and shade, along with succulents and houseplants. New at this year's sale will be face painting from 11-1, at the children's area in the back corner, and there will be live music all day. The Friends of Manito members receive 10% off their purchases.

Spokane Fantasy Flight annual fundraiser Sept 15

Northwest Pole Adventures Fantasy Flight presents I Believe - 2018 Annual Fundraising Auction, on Saturday, September 15 from 6-9pm at the Spokane Convention Center, Centennial Ballroom. The proceeds from this auction will benefit Northwest North Pole Adventures Spokane Fantasy Flight, which provides a magical trip to the North Pole for some very special children from area shelters and community programs. They are flown to the North Pole for an evening of fun and surprises.

New exhibit at the Jundt Art Museum

The Jundt Art Museum at Gonzaga University presents a Rodin exhibition from Saturday, September 8 through Saturday, January 5. A free public reception will be held from 4-7pm, this Friday, September 7. The exhibit will show 22 of Rodin's important bronzes modeled between 1860 and 1910, plus three bronzes by Rodin in the permanent collection of the Jundt Art Museum. Rodrigo Y Gabriela perform at the Fox Sept 14



Since they left Mexico for Ireland in 1999, Rodrigo y Gabriela have established themselves as one of the most popular acoustic instrumental bands in the world. They have sold in excess of 1.5 million albums worldwide, and have sold out venues like the Hollywood Bowl, the Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House, Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Le Zenith in Paris on numerous occasions.

Their film work includes the soundtracks to 'Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' and 'Puss In Boots', and they have collaborated onstage and on record with artists as diverse as Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Al Di Meola, Zack De La Rocha (Rage Against The Machine) and Anoushka Shankar. In 2010 Rodrigo y Gabriela played at The White House in Washington for President Obama.

2017 saw the duo celebrate the 10th Anniversary of their breakout self-titled album with a deluxe re-issue and extensive world tour during which they performed the album in full each night. They are currently writing and recording a new studio album. Rodrigo y Gabriela are joined by Special Guest Robert Ellis. Concert time is 8pm.

Dinner on the Bridge fundraiser coming Sept 14

Women & Children's Free Restaurant & Community Kitchen will host its 2nd annual Dinner on the Bridge: Celebrating Farm-to-Fork on Friday, September 14 from 6-9pm. This special event is presented by Spokane Federal Credit Union.

Experience a celebration of regional farmers, culinary creativity and artisan producers with an alfresco dinner on the South Howard Street Channel Bridge (near the carousel) located in Riverfront Park. Your dinner will be served with exceptional regional wines and microbrews.
