Yellow Submarine tonight at the Bing

Spokane Public Radio will host an exclusive showing of Yellow Submarine tonight, August 8 at the Bing Crosby Theatre. This special evening begins with a live taping of Movies 101 at 6:30pm before the film begins at 7:30pm.

Debuting in 1968, Yellow Submarine perfectly encapsulates the new art trends of the 60's. The fantastical animated tale overflows with peace, love, and hope, packed with Beatles songs such as 'All You Need is Love' and 'When I'm Sixty-Four.' The songs and score have been remixed in 5.1 stereo surround sound at Abbey Road Studios, and the artwork was cleaned up carefully by hand, frame-by-frame. You won't want to miss your chance to see it on the big screen!

Before the show, Dan Webster, Mary Pat Treuthart, and Nathan Weinbender will discuss the film as well as its influences and impacts in a live recording of Movies 101. Between the taping and the movie, 4000 Holes will have an amazing display of Yellow Submarine and Beatles memorabilia.

'Creative Experiences' Exhibit Opens

'CX30: Creative Experiences, Thirty Collaborators' can be seen at the Terrain Gallery, 304 W Pacific, throughout the month of August. Gallery hours are Thursday-Saturday, 5-7pm.

Curated, designed, written and installed by CK Anderson, principal and creative director at helveticka, and his team, 'CX30' isn't your typical exhibit. While work from a few commercial visual artists is presented, the essence of the show is the personal stories provided by the participants themselves. "When we reached out to these 30 collaborators," says Anderson, "we asked each to tell a story - about themselves, about their careers, about the creative experience.

Among those represented in the exhibit are artists, photographers, illustrators, programmers, videographers, media buyers, printers, animators, fabricators, composers - even a cartoonist. While the majority of them are from Spokane, some hail from as far away as Los Angeles and Minneapolis.

Kingston Trio just announced for Dec 4 at the Bing

I don't know if anyone else is as excited as I am about this show, but I am thrilled! OK, I know it's not the same three guys. Tim Gorelangton, Mike Marvin and Josh Reynolds now make up the Kingston Trio, (Josh is the son of original member Nick Reynolds). But it's their music, and I know all the words to all the songs. It's going to be at the Bing Crosby Theater Tuesday, December 4 at 8pm.

Ticketswest has your seats and I already have mine!
