It's Valleyfest weekend!

Valleyfest is Spokane Valley's annual celebration of fun, and runs this Friday, September 22 through Sunday, September 24 at Mirabeau Point Park and CenterPlace Regional Event Center.

Lots of activities all weekend long, include a parade Friday night at 7:30, hot air balloons on Saturday and Sunday, entertainment, including Milonga, the Master Class Big Band, Christy Lee and more. A car show, Stuff the STA Bus with children's coats, fabulous food and merchandise vendors, a pancake breakfast Saturday, 5 and 10K runs (Bloomsday second seed qualifiers) and a Duathlon on Sunday, a robotics demonstration, lots of kids activities, TotFest on Sunday and much more.

Carmen at the Fox this Friday & Saturday

The Spokane Symphony, under the musical direction of Eckart Preu, and Opera Coeur d'Alene, with director Jadd Davis, present Georges Bizet's 'Carmen,' featuring Metropolitan Opera stars Sandra Piques Eddy (pictured above), Dinyar Vania and Jennnifer Welch Babidge, this Friday and Saturday, September 22 & 23, 8pm at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox.

Spokane Symphony Extends Contract with Preu

The Spokane Symphony Board of Trustees has announced that Music Director and Conductor Eckart Preu has signed a one-year contract extension through the end of the 2018-19 Symphony season, which will be Preu's farewell season with the orchestra after 15 years.

"Spokane is very fortunate to have benefitted from Eckart's charismatic leadership," said Lorrie Scott, president of the Spokane Symphony Board of Trustees. "His talent, energy and innovation have made an impact in our community and elevated the orchestra's level of musical excellence, ultimately positioning the Spokane Symphony for long-term success."

Maestro Preu, 48, who has been the Spokane Symphony's Music Director since 2004, is the eighth music director since the organization was founded in 1945. Preu will continue in his role through the end of the 2018-19 season, and plans to spend more time in similar conducting positions in other U.S. cities, as well as guest conducting abroad.

Spokane Oktoberfest coming Oct 27-29

Spokane Oktoberfest (formerly at the River), an authentic German event in partnership with the German American Society of Spokane, returns to Spokane bigger and better than ever. The Spokane Valley's CenterPlace Regional Event Center will be site of 3rd annual Spokane Oktoberfest with a community celebration of all things Bavarian. Moving the location allows Oktoberfest to take advantage of inside and outside space, more food options, free parking plus two stages for an expanded entertainment package.

Friday through Sunday, October 27-29 are the dates with festivities beginning Friday at four through midnight, Saturday noon to midnight and Sunday 11am-5pm with Spokesman Review half price family day. Adult admission is $10 or $15 for all weekend with in/out privileges. Children 12 or younger are free throughout the event. Each night at 8pm the event turns into adult only as the music and entertainment kick it up a notch.

Z Nation exhibit at the MAC extended through Sept 24

The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture in Browne's Addition has extended the Z Nation - Behind the Camera exhibit, and will now run through this Sunday, September 24.

Earth, Wind & Fire at the INB this Saturday

Earth, Wind & Fire, one of the most successful groups of the 70's, play the INB Performing Arts Center for a one-night-only performance this Saturday, September 23 at 7pm. Tickets available at or 800-325-SEAT.

Arbor Crest Summer Concert Series winding down

There are only a few concerts left of this year's summer concert series at Arbor Crest. This Thursday, September 21, Sara Brown will perform her blend of Rhythm & Blues from 4:30-6:30. Jewelry by Susan Alvarez will be on display. Admission is $5 at the gate.

And this Sunday, September 24, is the last Sunday 'Concert on the Cliff' of the season, featuring Rock 'n' Roll music by Common Ground, a group of professional musicians and band teachers, (Matt Thistle, Michelle Stafford, Carl Rantzow, Taylor Belote). Music runs from 4:30-Sunset, admission is $10.

Jokes and Jazz tonight at the Bing

Don't miss this debut of your favorite jazz musician's comedic talent. Wild Kratts - Live at the INB this Sunday

The wildly popular PBS KIDS television show, Wild Kratts, is coming to the live stage, this Sunday, September 24 at the INB Performing Arts Center. Performance times are 1 and 4:30pm.

Animated Kratt Brothers Martin and Chris come to real life in a classically Wild Kratts story. Off 'To the Creature Rescue!' the Emmy nominated Kratt Brothers activate fan favorite Creature Power Suits to confront a comic villain. Through hilarious pratfalls and amazing animal 'wow facts,' the Wild Kratts team rescues their favorite invention from Zach's clutches so the animals of the creature world are safe once again.

Chamber Soiree at Davenport Hotel on Sept 26 & 27

Spokane Symphony Chamber Soirees at the Historic Davenport Hotel are ensembles of virtuoso musicians playing an assortment of baroque, classical and contemporary chamber music. Chamber Soiree concerts are on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in September, February and April, and are available individually, or as part of a three-concert subscription.

YogaJoy Fall Festival this Friday

YogaJoy North will be hosting a Fall Festival this Friday, September 22, 3:30-6:30pm, with a live remote hosted by Molly Allen of KZZU Radio.
