Zuill Bailey's big day: Grammy nomination and Musical America honor



Zuill Bailey, phenomenal cellist and artistic director of the Northwest Bach Festival had a very big good news day yesterday. He received a Grammy nomination and was named a 2016 Musical Innovator by Musical America.

He was nominated for a Grammy for his solo instrumental on 'Tales of Hemingway,' by Michael Daugherty, which was also nominated in two other categories. The 2016 Musical Innovator award from Musical America was for outreach musical work Bailey has done, like performances in neonatal intensive care units, oncology wards and homeless shelters.

You can see Bailey in the Spokane area this week, performing the Bach Festival's December Classics series, in Coeur d'Alene at the Hagadone Event Center at the Golf Course on Thursday, December 8 and at Barrister Winery in Spokane on Friday, December 9 and Sunday, December 11. Art Spirit Gallery's 18th Annual Small Works Invitational is going on now



The Art Spirit Gallery at 415 Sherman in downtown Coeur d'Alene presents their 18th Annual Small Works Invitational featuring over 200 new works by 32 regional artists. 'Gloria' at Whitworth University's Christmas Festival is Saturday night



The Whitworth University Christmas Festival, 'Gloria' is at the Martin Woldson Theatre at the Fox this Saturday, December 10 at 8pm and again on Sunday, December 11 at 3pm. Holiday Lights at Manito Park's Gaiser Conservatory begins Friday



See the Gaiser Conservatory transformed into a winter wonderland with over 30,000 lights. The Friends of Manito are presenting their annual holiday lights display in Manito Park at the Gaiser Conservatory this Friday, December 9 through Sunday, December 18. Hours are daily from noon to 7:30pm, best viewing is after sunset. This event is free and open to the public.


Celebrate the Holidays with the Spokane Symphony's Holiday Pops Dec 17 & 18

This year's Holiday Pops with the Spokane Symphony promises to be something very special. There will be festive sing-alongs and crowd favorites for the whole family. Children will enjoy the animated film, 'The Snowman,' who magically comes to life, set to a live score with the Spokane Symphony. Morihiko Nakahara will be conducting the concerts, featuring the Spokane Symphony Chorale and the Spokane Area Youth Choirs. Special guest appearance by Santa.

Celebrate 'Traditions of Christmas' in Coeur d'Alene

The Fireside Music Series continues at Arbor Crest Wine Cellars with live music this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Music runs from 5:30-7:30pm, no cover.

Affiniti Celtic Christmas Sunday at the Bing



Sunday, December 11 at 7pm at the Bing Crosby Theater, enjoy what the Boston Globe describes as 'Full of Soul, Sass and Sophistication' An Affiniti Celtic Christmas is a great show.

A trio of Harp, Violin and Soprano voice like you have never heard before. Affiniti have been performing together for 10 years and have enjoyed three sell out tours of the States over the last number of years. Their show 'A Celtic Christmas' will feature classical and celtic music, haunting and uplifting Christmas songs, and with a particular penchant for movie music, there will be a 'Leading Ladies of yesteryear' section in this years show. They will be joined on stage by the charismatic Howard Crosby and are looking forward to duetting on 'White Christmas' with Bing's own nephew. Affiniti are renowned for their ethereal sound, stage personality and exciting arrangements of popular songs. They will perform their own Celtic version of 'O Holy Night' as well as some uplifting jigs and reels and of course the ever beloved 'Danny Boy.'
