The Nutcracker at the Fox begins this Thursday through Sunday



Celebrate the magic of the holidays at the Martin Woldson Theatre at the Fox with the Spokane Symphony, the nationally acclaimed State Street Ballet, and a bevy of local dancers in The Nutcracker. Five performances, this Thursday, December 1 through Sunday, December 4.

Christmas Tree Elegance continues through Dec 11



This year's Christmas Tree Elegance began yesterday and continues through December 11 at the Davenport Hotel and River Park Square, with a raffle of 18 themed custom-decorated trees with prizes which include gift certificates, items and cash valued up to $5,000 and a Father Christmas sculpture. Christmas trees are decorated and on display at the mezzanine of the Davenport Hotel and on the second floor corridor at River Park Square.

Spokane Symphony Music Director Eckart Preu and 10 members of the orchestra will be featured at two Holiday luncheons on December 6 and 7 at the Davenport Hotel. Door prizes and other fun activities will be included. Tickets for the luncheon are $50 and can be purchased by calling 509-458-TREE (8733).

1st Annual Holiday Art Show at the Arbor Crest Cliff House Estate

On Saturday, December 10 from Noon to 6pm, Arbor Crest Wine Cellars will present a one-of-a-kind holiday experience of locally crafted art, wine and music, on display throughout the Wine Bar and the Cliff House at 4705 N Fruit Hill Rd. The show will feature creations from a dozen local artisans, including paintings, photography, jewelry, hand-turned wood pieces, rock art and more. Admission is free (ages 21 and over only).

Connoisseur Concerts presents December Winter Classics Dec 8-11



The 2016 December Winter Classics concerts will feature Zuill Bailey, Artistic Director of the Northwest Bach Festival performing cello with guest pianist Natasha Paremski in programs called Romance of the Cello and Romance of the Sonata.

Performances are Thursday, December 8, 7:30 at the Hagadone Event Center in Coeur d'Alene. This concert features works by Chopin, Stravinsky and Rachmaninov.

On Friday, December 9, 7:30pm, the same program will be featured at Barrister Winery in downtown Spokane. Award-winning Barrister wines available for purchase at the concert for age 21 and over.

And on Sunday, December 11 at 3pm, the third concert in this series will again be at Barrister Winery, with musical selections from Prokofiev and Brahms.

Edmond Bruneau poetry reading Saturday



Author Edmond Bruneau will be reading from his new book, New Hues and Past Tales, this Saturday, December 3 at Barnes and Noble, 15310 E Indiana Ave in the Spokane Valley from 11:30am-Noon and from 1:30-2pm. He will be signing books at the store from 11-3pm. The event is free of charge.

Bing Crosby Holiday Film Festival at the Bing Saturday



The 11th Annual Bing Crosby Holiday Film Festival is this Saturday, December 3 at the Bing. Doors open at 10am. The festival begins with the 10:30am showing of Bing Crosby' traditional and much beloved holiday film White Christmas (1954), which also stars Rosemary Clooney, Vera-Ellen and Danny Kaye. The Bells of St. Mary's (1945), with Bing Crosby and Ingrid Bergman, shows at 1pm. Birth of the Blues (1941) will be shown at 4pm. The film also features Mary Martin and Brian Donlevy, with brief appearances by such jazz greats as Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Paul Whiteman.

This year's Festival will feature a live tribute to White Christmas and to the works of Spokane music royalty - Bing Crosby, Mildred Bailey and Al Rinker. Spokane's own Hot Club of Spokane will present a program at 6pm that features several singers, a dozen top musicians, and historic films of the 1920s and 1930s. And at 7:30 the festival concludes with a repeat showing of the classic White Christmas. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Christmas in Germany...with the Coeur d'Alene Symphony



This Friday and Saturday, December 2 & 3, the Coeur d'Alene Symphony, with guest conductor Kevin Hekmatpanah of Gonzaga University, will kick-start the holiday season with symphonic music by Brahms, Johann Strauss II and Englebert Humperdinck, plus some rousing seasonal favorites.

Performances are at the Salvation Army Kroc Center Auditorium, Friday, December 2 at 7:30pm and Saturday, December 3 at 2pm. Adult tickets are $27, Seniors, $21 and Youth/Students, $10 and are available online at www.cdasymphony.org, by calling the Symphony office at 208-765-3833 or at the door. Bret Michaels will 'Wreck the Halls' at the Arena Saturday



It's going to be a full day of rock 'n roll as 'Wreck the Halls with Bret Michaels' featuring Bret, Warrant, Jack Russell's Great White, LA Guns, RATT and Dokken will play the Star Theatre at the Spokane Arena this Saturday, December 3. Doors open at 2:30pm, LA Guns play at 3:30, Jack Russell's Great White is on at 4:20, Dokken plays at 5:30, Warrant is on at 6:40, RATT plays at 7:50 and Bret Michaels takes the stage at 9:20.

'Cup of Joy' at Trackside Studio Ceramic Art Gallery starting Saturday



The Trackside Studio Ceramic Art Gallery at 115 S. Adams presents 'Cup of Joy' starting this Friday December 2, ad running through January 13.

Receptions are scheduled this Friday, from 5-8pm, and this Saturday, noon-4 as well as Saturday December 17, noon-4. The show is a group invitational and sale of drinking vessels, cup, mug, yunomi, sake, stein, goblet, functional or non-functional, by professional ceramic artists exhibiting from all corners of the United States. It is curated by Trackside Studio Ceramic Art Gallery and Gina Freuen.

Gonzaga Symphony with cellist Amit Peled



The Gonzaga Symphony performs at the Martin Woldson theatre at the Fox, Tuesday, December 6 at 7:30pm. Music Director Kevin Hekmatpanah and the orchestra will be joined by renowned Israeli cellist Amit Peled in a performance of a cornerstone of the cello repertoire: Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto in E Minor. Cesar Franck's Symphony in D Minor is also on the program.

Voted by Musical America as one of the most Influential Music Professionals of 2015, Peled is acclaimed as one of the most exciting instrumentalists on the concert stage today. American Record Guides says "He has the flair of the young Rostropovich," while London's Strad Magazine praises him as a "fiery and intelligent" musician who shines "in a bold and dramatically conceived interpretation."
