Allen and Mary Dee Dodge at Art Spirit Gallery



This Friday, May 8 the Art Spirit Gallery at 415 Sherman in downtown Coeur d'Alene, opens a month-long show of art by Allen and Mary Dee Dodge. Spokane Symphony Classics Season Finale this Saturday & Sunday



The Spokane Symphony will perform a special concert this Mother's Day weekend at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox. This Classics Series Concert features Spokane's own Patricia Bartell on accordian, performing Astor Piazzolla's Bandoneon Concerto. Patricia is an accordion virtuoso and President of the World Trophy Accordion U.S.A. Organization. Also featured is Frank Zappa's Dupree's Paradise and Camille Saint-Saens, Symphony No. 3, 'Organ Symphony'. Eckart Preu will be conducting and John Bodinger is featured on organ.

Performance times are 8pm on Saturday, May 9 and 3pm on Sunday, May 10. As a special treat for the kids, Children get in for free on the Sunday, Mother's day concert. Call the Box office for details at 509-624-1200.

There will be a Silent Auction at each performance of this concert. There will be incredible items on auction, including a reserve blanket at Arbor Crest for the two Soiree on the Edge concerts in August; a flight over Spokane with Music Director Eckart Preu; a split case of Symphony Red and Fox White Wines by Latah Creek, featuring label artwork by Edward Gilmore, and much more. This is a great chance to win incredible prizes and support the symphony at the same time! A few of the items up for auction are only available at one of the two concerts. The Spokane Jazz Orchestra with Heather Villa present 'Springtime in Paris'

The Spokane Jazz Orchestra, featuring guest vocalist Heather Villa present their 2014/2015 Season Finale 'Springtime in Paris' at the Bing Crosby Theater, this Saturday, May 9, 7:30 pm. The Orchestra, under the direction of Tom Molter, provides a romantic finish to their 40th year celebration tour, with Spokane cabaret artist Heather Villa leading you 'across the pond,' to experience the unequaled wonder of jazz in Paris. 'Springtime in Paris' will not only features the songs of the cabarets, but also the hits from some of the greatest jazz musicians in Europe. El Katif Shriners to Host Mother & Son Dance Friday

You're never too old to be a mama's boy! The El Katif Shriners will be hosting a Mother & Son Dance. The dance will feature a DJ spinning classic and modern hits that both mom and son can get down to. Make memories that mom will cherish for a lifetime.

The dance will take place this Friday, May 8 from 7 to 10pm at the Shriners Event Center located at 7217 W. Westbow Blvd. $20 gets both mom and son in the door and on the dance floor! Nachos, pizza, soda and photo opportunities are all included. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance by phoning 509-624-2762. Proceeds from the dance benefit the El Katif Shriners, a local organization that works tirelessly in the community to enrich the lives of children and families.

British Brass Band at North Central High School May 17

On Sunday, May 17, at 3 pm, the Spokane British Brass Band will be presenting a concert entitled 'Masters of Brass XVI' in the auditorium of North Central High School. This concert is the final concert of their 20th anniversary season and they are showcasing favorite pieces from the past 19 seasons. The band consists of 25 brass musicians under the direction of Collins Loupe, who is also a music educator at North Central High School. This concert will be the last for Collins, as he is retiring from the band after this concert.

This concert is a fundraiser for the music program at North Central High School and all proceeds of the concert will be split between NC and the Spokane British Brass Band. Alan and Gary Gemberling will be joining the brass band, playing the Harry James Concerto for Trumpet and a Trombone tribute to Duke Ellington. Caleb Landron, a senior at North Central will also be performing 'The Blue Bells of Scotland' on the trombone.

The sound of a British Style Brass Band is a unique sound not found anywhere else in the Inland Empire because they utilize British baritones and Eb alto horns that are not otherwise used in the this country.

2015 USA Gymnastics Women's Level 9 Western Championships this weekend

Some of the country's finest young gymnasts are traveling to Spokane to compete in the 2015 USA Gymnastics Women's Level 9 Western Championships. Competition begins at the Spokane Convention Center, this Friday, May 8 at 8:30 am, and concludes Sunday, May 10. Spectators are welcome. Entry for adults range from $15 for a single day to $35 for an all access pass for the weekend. Child and Senior entry starts at $10 for a single day.

This event will bring nearly 400 competing athletes and over 1000 additional coaches and family members from around the country, resulting in approximately $850,000 in visitor spending. For more event information, visit 2015westerns.com.

'Listen To Your Mother Spokane' at the Bing on Mother's Day

Spokane's fifth production of 'Listen to Your Mother' this Sunday night, May 10 at 7 pm, at the Bing will demonstrate how and why the national movement that 'gave mothers a microphone' is expanding. First, in print: Released just last month, 'Listen to your Mother: What She Said Then, What We're Saying Now,' is a collection of essays performed by LTYM cast members; two of whom are from past Spokane shows.
