Free Comic Book Days at Merlyn's Saturday and Sunday



This Saturday and Sunday, May 2 & 3 are Free Comic book days at John Waite's Merlyn's Science Fiction Fantasy store 19 West Main. Each person who comes in can choose 2 free comic books. Hot Club of Spokane celebrates Crosby, Bailey and Rinker



Hot Club of Spokane takes to the stage at the Bing May 2 at 1pm for a CD release party celebrating the music of Bing Crosby, Mildred Bailey, and Al Rinker.

Hot Club of Spokane is an organization of musicians in Spokane, dedicated to the preservation of jazz, swing, and blues. Their debut CD project features selections from the repertoires of Spokane's jazz royalty - Bing Crosby, Mildred Bailey, and Al Rinker.

To celebrate the release of this ambitious recording project, Hot Club of Spokane has joined forces with Nostalgia Magazine to present a spectacular combination of live music and documentary film at the Bing Crosby Theater on Saturday, May 2, the day before Bing Crosby's birthday.

Rare photos, archival film footage, and storytelling segments will run on the Bing Crosby Theater's giant motion picture screen between and during live performances of Hot Club of Spokane's debut CD selections. The event will be hosted and narrated by Tom McArthur. Pre-recorded story segments will feature interviews with William Stimson, Jim Kershner, Julia Keefe, Stephanie Plowman, Jim Price, and University of Northern Arizona professor and ethnomusicologist, Chad Hamill, a member of the Spokane Tribe. Photos and film footage will be provided by Bing Crosby Enterprises, The Rinker Family, Gonzaga University, KSPS Public Television, The Keefe Family, and Nostalgia Magazine.

First Friday at your MAC

Our gem of a museum in Browne's Addition celebrates this First Friday, May 1 from 5-8pm. Check out the current exhibits, the Museum gift store and Cafe MAC, Art demonstrations and live music from Spokane All City Jazz Ensembles Miles Davis Group. This group is compiled of high school students from Lewis & Clark, Ferris, Shadle Park, and Gonzaga Prep High Schools. The Bearing Public Sculpture Project non-profit collaborates with the MAC, artists, regional veterans and refugees to bring their voices to the public and to create awareness of their struggles and triumphs. This First Friday, May 1 from 5 to 9:30 pm VduV Winery, at 12 South Scott, original artworks by Spokane artist Darcy Lee Saxton, whose whimsical and somewhat surreal naturescapes, abstracts and portraits will bring a strong splash of color to the tasting room. Music by VduV's always entertaining house band, Crushpad.



Urbanna Natural Spa & Salon features Montana artist, who just relocated to Spokane, Shana Smith, known for her eccentric style, large murals, and ability to paint using both hands. This will be Shana's premier show in the Spokane area. Live music by singer/guitar player Rod Blackmen. Hours are from 5-7:30pm. 1/2 price special on first glass of wine. Good 'News' from Northern Quest



The good news is Northern Quest has announced that Huey Lewis and the News with Eddie Money have joined the 2015 Pepsi Outdoor Summer Concert line-up at Northern Quest Resort & Casino. The show will be on Sunday, August 30, in the outdoor concert venue. Show time is 7:30pm. Ticket prices are $35/$45/$65 and go on sale this Saturday, May 2, at 8:30am.

'Ladies First! A Night of Funny Females' at the Bing



A celebration of the growing female comedy scene in the Pacific Northwest. Spokane's Mattie Sobotka, Seattle's Kelsey Cook and Portland's Susan Rice will take The Bing's stage this Friday, May 1, at 8pm in the first performance of the 2015 BA-DA BING Comedy Series at The Bing Theater!

The Whitworth Symphony Orchestra performs Sunday at the Fox

This Sunday, May 3 at 3pm, the Whitworth Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Philip Baldwin, will perform an exciting spring concert of audience favorites. Beginning with Otto Nicolai's ebullient overture to The Merry Wives of Windsor, the orchestra will then perform Dvorak's enthralling Slavonic Dances, Op. 46. The concert concludes with emotionally charged and powerful Second Symphony of Jean Sibelius, which was written during the composer's revitalizing trip to Italy.

3rd Annual Chocolate de Mayo Celebration at Chocolate Myracles

This Saturday May 2, from 12 noon until 6 pm, Chocolate Myracles is hosting a free event to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. There will be a lovely array of Latin American Chocolates, personally selected by Chocolatier Julia Myracle. You can step inside the factory and make a hand-rolled truffle, assemble a decadent dessert with French chocolate mousse, dip caramelized plantains in a luscious chocolate fountain and more.
