Women's Sweet 16 and Elite 8 to return to Spokane Arena in 2015

Washington State University and the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena have been selected to host one of four regional sites for the 2015 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship, the NCAA just announced. This marks the fourth time in an eight-year span Washington State University and the Spokane Arena will have hosted a women's regional, having successfully staged events in 2008, 2011 and 2013.

The Spokane Regional will be played either March 27 and March 29, or March 28 and March 30, 2015. The NCAA will determine those dates later this year.

In addition to Spokane the remaining three regional sites are Albany, N.Y. (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference); Oklahoma City, Okla. (University of Oklahoma) and Greensboro, N.C. (Atlantic Coast Conference).

Ticket prices and sale dates for the 2015 NCAA Division I Basketball Championship Regional will be announced at a later date.

Steve Garvey comes home to the Spokane Indians tonight!



Tonight former Spokane Indians and Los Angeles Dodgers great, Steve Garvey, will be at Avista Stadium to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Garvey, a 10-time major league all-star, shined at first base for the 1970 Spokane Indians PCL Championship squad. Garvey had a huge impact on the team, hitting .319 with 15 home runs in just 95 games. The team won the 1970 championship easily, outscoring its opponent 36-9 in the 4-0 sweep.

Garvey's accolades include a World Series title in 1981, National League MVP (1974), two-time NLCS MVP ('78, '84), four-time gold glove winner ('74-77) and two-time All-Star Game MVP ('74, '78). The hard-hitting third baseman was honored with the Roberto Clemente Award in 1981, which is given annually to the Major League Baseball player who 'best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual's contribution to his team.'

Mozart at Manito!



Connoisseur Concerts presents the 24th annual Mozart on a Summer's Eve concerts, Tuesday, July 15 & Wednesday, July 16 at 7pm in Manito Park, on the lawn east of the Duncan Gardens.

Concerts begin at 7pm. Connoisseur Concerts' Ensemble directed by Verne Windham, will perform with special guest soprano Phoebe MacRae. World-renowned cellist Zuill Bailey will be featured with David Leisner on classical guitar. Zuill is Artistic Director of Connoisseur Concerts' Northwest Bach Festival.

Tickets to the concerts are $30 per person for table seating for eight. The ticket price includes a gourmet dessert and coffee provided by Luna Restaurant. Arrive as early as 5:30pm to picnic or have a potluck at your reserved table. Tickets for lawn seating for those who bring their own blankets or chairs are $10 each for concert only with no food or beverage service.

More Music this week at Manito's Park Bench



The Manito Park Bench Cafe's free summer concerts series continue this week on Friday, July 11. From 6-8pm, enjoy the music of Paul Grove. Great food and beverages available in the cafe, including wine & beer during concert hours. The Cafe is open 7 days a week.

This Wednesday at The Fountain Cafe

Maxie Ray Mills performs this Today, July 9 at the Fountain Cafe in Riverfront Park. Concert is free and runs from 6-8pm. Great food available for purchase.

Rockin' B Ranch celebrates 20 years of good old Cowboy fun!



The Rockin' B Ranch is open for Cowboy supper shows as they celebrate their 20th anniversary. On the second weekends of the month from July through October, join the Riders of the Rockin' B as they perform great Cowboy music. There's lots of great music, great food and fun. Don't miss it!

This month's shows are Friday, July 11 at 6:15pm, Saturday, July 12 at 6:15pm, and Sunday, July 13 at 3:15pm. This weekend's show will feature five-time fiddle champion Tony Ludiker along with Olivia Brownlee on vocals, playing along with the Riders of the Rockin' B. They'll be serving up a great barbecue dinner and have revived the original 'shoot-out!'

And...Christmas Tree Elegance has set the dates for this year, so mark your calendars, December 2-14, 2014 at the Davenport Hotel and River Park Square. The annual event is produced by the Spokane Symphony Associates, a volunteer group dedicated to raising funds for the Spokane Symphony Orchestra. Stay tuned for more details!

The NAB, National Association of Broadcasters has just announced the Finalists for the 2014 Marconi Awards and Spokane's very own KXLY NewsRadio 920 is a finalist in the 'Legendary Station of the Year' category along with heavyweight stations and markets from New York City (WFAN AM-FM), San Francisco (KFRC and KCBS) and St. Louis (WIL-FM).

The winners will be announced September 11th at a dinner and show at the 2014 Radio Show in Indianapolis.
