An amazing ceramics show at the Trackside



The Northwest Ceramics Invitational at the Kolva Sullivan and the Trackside Galleries at 115 South Adams, opens this Friday, featuring the ceramic works of 29 artists from the northwest, showing over 75 pieces. Opening receptions are First Friday, December 6, 5 to 8 pm and First Saturday, December 7, 10 am - 3 pm.

Kolva Sullivan Gallery and Trackside Studio Ceramic Art Gallery, along with the curatorial work of local ceramic artist Gina Freuen, have joined together to create this unique ceramics exhibit with a vision to the diversity and national prestige of the professional ceramic artists working within a day's drive of our community. The artists chosen for this exhibit are directors of clay institutions, professors of ceramics, are the feature artists demonstrating and lecturing at major museum exhibits and have been featured at the National Council on Education in the Ceramic Arts, "NCECA." Their work is under constant demand for exhibition making their inclusion in this exhibit a rare opportunity to see their work in person and add to your personal ceramic collections.

Fun at the Fox this week

The Martin Woldson Theatre at the Fox is brimming with performances this week. The Nutcracker presented by the Spokane Symphony Orchestra and the State Street Ballet of Santa Barbara is Thursday through Sunday.

On Monday evening at 7:30 The Gonzaga Symphony Orchestra performs Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-Flat Minor, Op. 23 with pianist Natasha Paremski as guest soloist. Ticket are for general admission seating. This performance is free to GU faculty, students and staff.

Next Wednesday at 7:30 the Tedeschi Trucks band with London Souls perform.

The most "Elegant" time of the year



Two of Spokane's outstanding destinations, the historic Davenport Hotel and River Park Square, will host the 31st Annual Christmas Tree Elegance, a raffle of 18 themed custom-decorated trees with prizes which include gift certificates, items and cash valued at $5,000 each now through December 15. Twelve decorated trees will grace the mezzanine of the historic Davenport Hotel while six holiday trees will line the second floor corridor at River Park Square.

The fabulously decorated trees and the chance to win one of them and all its themed gifts have been a Spokane holiday tradition thousands of visitors from across the Inland Northwest who come to view the trees and purchase the $1 raffle tickets for a chance to win. The annual extravaganza is created and sponsored by Spokane Symphony Associates, a 300-member volunteer organization that raises about $200,000 in support of the Spokane Symphony each year.

Spokane Jazz Orchestra- A Glenn Miller Christmas Saturday night

The Glenn Miller Orchestra's Nutcracker Suite was such a huge success last year, the Spokane Jazz Orchestra is building their Christmas show around it once again. "Big Band Christmas" this Saturday night at 8 pm at the Bing Crosby Theater will surely be a night to remember.

What a great way to kick off the holiday season, complete with many more holiday favorites from the swing era! Guest artists will include a couple of the Jazz Orchestra's favorite singers, Nicole Lewis and John Brownell, along with the luscious vocal sounds of their own six piece vocal group, "The Jazz Tones."

The Brickwall Photographic show this month

The Brickwall Photographic, at 530 W. Main on the skywalk just east of Macy's in the Bennett Block, will be featuring Deby Dixon and Tegra Stone Nuess for this December's First Friday Artwalk this Friday evening. The show will be open until 8:30 on December 6th and will remain up for the rest of the month.

Deby will be showing works from a year in Yellowstone photographing the wolves there.

Tegra is a travel photographer and will be showing images from Africa.

Cheese Extravaganza at Huckleberry's this Saturday



Huckleberry's Natural Market invites you to sample cheeses from around the world at their Annual Cheese Extravaganza, this Saturday, December 7th, 9 am to 3 pm at 926 S. Monroe.

Cheese experts from around the world will be on to answer your questions, suggest recipes, and let you sample a stunning variety of cheese from around the world, and other delicious items. Experts from The Spokane Wine Co. will also be on hand to offer advice on pairing gourmet cheese with delicious wines.

Blessings Under the Bridge Hosting Comedy Night

Blessings Under the Bridge, a non-profit organization that provides food and other services to those in need, is hosting a "Live Love Laugh Comedy Night". This event will take place this Saturday, 6 pm, at Black Diamond, 9614 E Sprague Avenue in the Spokane Valley, and will help support the goals the organization hopes to achieve. The $20 ticket will feed 10 people "under the bridge" and includes a drink of choice for all guests.

The show will be hosted by comedian Ken Martin and features performances by Jay Wendell Walker and Harry J. Riley.

All purchased tickets will be put into a raffle, with the chance to win a variety of different prizes from businesses around Spokane. Some examples include a $50 gift certificate to popular restaurant Five Guys Burgers and Fries, a 2-month membership and free personal trainer from Gold's Gym, box suite tickets to a Spokane Chiefs game, a Starbucks gift basket and tickets to a Gonzaga Women's Basketball game. Doors open at 6pm, raffle prizes will be drawn at 8pm with the comedy show starting shortly after followed by dancing at 10:30pm.

Blessings Under the Bridge is a non-profit organization founded by Mike and Jessica Kovac. Their mission is to "Live, Love, Serve" by providing food to the homeless and less fortunate. But most importantly they strive to bring hope and give love. BUTB currently feeds close to 250 men, women and children every Wednesday under the freeway bridge near Division Street in downtown Spokane.

A Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, Chris Isaak's iconic vocal style has garnered enormous acclaim and his songs have been featured on numerous films and television shows. His Rockabilly vibe shines through on hits such as "Wicked Game," "Go Walking Down There," and "Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing." Christmas at the Bing December 21

They've individually appeared on every major stage in Seattle, Portland and Spokane and they will be gathered into one big holiday gift basket at the first annual Christmas at the Bing concert on December 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bing Crosby Theater.

The concert, produced by Davis Arts and Friends of the Bing, will be hosted by Douglas Webster, fresh from his sold-out triumph with the Spokane production of Les Miz. He will be joined by Krista Curry, Jenny Shotwell, Chelsea LeValley, and locals Krista Kubicek and Max Mendez in a program that will mix traditional favorites such as "O Holy Night" and "I'll be Home for Christmas" with more contemporary fare such as "River" and "The Man with the Bag".

The evening has been programmed by Jadd Davis of Davis Arts with the same versatile flair that made his Fling at the Bing cabaret such a success last January.

The Friends of the Bing is also sponsoring a holiday toy drive to benefit the Spokane Shiner's Children Hospital. Unwrapped toys can be delivered to the Bing December 16-21 and will be presented to the Shriners at the Bing Holiday Kids Show from noon to 3 p.m. on December 21. Free for children under 14, the afternoon program will provide family entertainment, live performances and movies before the evening concert. The Bing Holiday Kids Show is a suggested $5 dollar donation at the door for adults and is free for children 14 and under.
