Girl's Day Out 2013 is this Saturday and Sunday




Local merchants and restaurants in the Garland, Hillyard, Spokane International, Monroe, South Perry, Davenport and SoDo Districts are all preparing for The 9th Annual Girl's Day Out. This great community event is hitting the streets of Spokane on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20 from 10am-6pm. Grab your best girlfriends and head out for two fantastic days of shopping, games, treats, prizes and great finds for yourself or loved ones. Each neighborhood has goodie bags full of surprises available to Girl's Day Out shoppers, so you'll want to get yours first thing in the morning before they're snatched up.

Each district is offering unique specials to shoppers, so stop by the headquarters in each neighborhood to find out about all the exceptional deals. A Shopping Guide with all the details and information is available at each neighborhood headquarters and in The Exchange publication which comes out this Thursday. Pumpkin Ball This Saturday

This year is the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Pumpkin Ball and will be extra special. This Saturday, October 19 starting at 5:30pm at the Spokane Convention Center, the fun starts with a Champagne reception. There will be prizes and live and silent auction an the evening includes a three-course dinner.

Since its inception in 2004, the Pumpkin Ball has raised over $1.1 million after expenses-money that will go directly to help the kids in our community that need it most.

Enjoy Chocolate and Wine tomorrow at The Lincoln Center

The Connoisseur's Club presents its Annual Chocolate Therapy Event this Thursday, October 17 from 6 to 10pm at The Lincoln Center, 1316 N Lincoln. The evening begins with an all-you-need-to-know chocolate presentation from Eva Roberts from Just American Desserts, followed with 2 great food & wine courses from the culinary team at The Lincoln Center. Wine selections for the evening will be presented by Wade Wolfe, from Thurston Wolfe Winery. The evening concludes with even more chocolate...a build-your-own deluxe S'mores bar with 6ft of continuous fire to roast your marshmallows!

American Idol with the Spokane Symphony this Saturday




This Saturday, October 19 from 8 to 10pm, three finalists from the television smash hit 'American Idol' join the Spokane Symphony and Morihiko Nakahara, Conductor, for an evening of hits from the world of Jazz, Rock, Broadway, Country and Pop. This evening of song features hits like 'Georgia on My Mind,' 'My Heart Will Go On,' 'I Will Always Love You,' 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia' and more. This is Symphony Idol! America has voted and now you can experience top contestants from recent seasons of American Idol live on stage with Spokane Symphony. Lakisha Jones (season 6), Haley Scarnato (season 6), and Matt Giraud (season 8) perform an impressive range of hits and favorites. Together, they'll bring the wide variety of music found on the American Idol stage to Spokane.

To make the experience more interactive, the Spokane Symphony has launched a 'Symphony Idol' singing contest of its own. Anyone who thinks they can carry a tune is encouraged to upload a video at bit.ly/idolcontest from their smartphone, of themselves singing a favorite song. Participants get $10 off Idol tickets just for entering the contest. Winners get free tickets, their song played at intermission, and a meet-and-greet with the Idol guest stars.

Harvest Moon & HalloWine Auction coming Oct. 25

The Inland NW Business Travel Association is holding their annual Harvest Moon & HalloWine Auction on Friday, October 25 from 5:30 to 9pm at the Mirabeau Park Hotel & Convention Center. INBTA NW has selected Northwest North Pole Adventures Spokane Fantasy Flight again this year to receive a portion of the funds generated from this event.

SWINGtoberfest is this Friday and Saturday




SWINGtoberfest, a weekend of traditional jazz and dancing, is this Friday and Saturday, October 18 and 19, at the German American Hall, 25 West Third Avenue. Doors open at 7:30pm. From 8-9pm there are free introductory dance lessons, and the show is from 9 to midnight. Go to swingtoberfest.wix.com for all the details.

Spokane String Quartet opens season this Sunday

The Spokane String Quartet opens its 2013-14 season at 3 pm this Sunday, October 20 at the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox. Counterculture is the theme of the concert, which includes music by Charles Ives and Franz Schubert, two composers known to stretch the bounds of what was acceptable in their day. The Spokane String Quartet consists of Mateusz Wolski and Amanda Howard-Phillips, violins; Jeannette Wee-Yang, viola; and Helen Byrne, cello.

All seats are general admission. Tickets are $20 for adults, $16 for seniors and $12 for students. Ticket prices include a $3 theater preservation fee. Spokane British Brass Band performs this Sunday




The Spokane British Brass Band will be having its opening concert of the 2013-2014 season at Spokane Falls Community College Music Building Auditorium this Sunday, October 20, at 3:00 pm. The band consists of 25 brass players and 2 percussion and is under the direction of Collins Loupe. The Non-Profit organization has been providing British Style Brass Band music to the Spokane area since the fall of 1995.

Tickets are $10 at the door (children & students are free).
