Inlander's Summer Guide is biggest issue ever

The biggest Inlander in history is on news stands all over the Inland Northwest and it's full of ways to enjoy summer. The Summer Guide issue is 136 pages big and it has just about everything there is to do here. Music, dining, recreation, stage, screen, night clubs, sports and more. It's all there. Congratulations to the Inlander on another great achievement (for the sixth year in a row!); according to Media Audit, with 37.3% of Inland Northwest adults reading the paper, it is the nation's best-read weekly newspaper!

'Ruthless' replaced by 'Greater Tuna' starting July 6

Sadly, David Gigler, one of the lead actors in the Interplayers' play 'Ruthless' passed away from a heart attack during rehearsal last week. This great man of local theatre played in 'The Boys Next Door' recently at Interplayers and appeared in many other plays over the last decade here, ranging from slapstick to serious drama. Because he was the life partner of Troy Nickerson, the director of 'Ruthless', and also the dark subject matter of the play, the artistic director at Interplayers, Reed McColm, has decided to cancel the production and replace it with another play.

David himself would have wanted the show to go on, but lacking that, he would have loved to see an uproarious slapstick comedy take its place as his memorial. In that spirit, Interplayers is replacing 'Ruthless' with 'Greater Tuna', a hilarious comedy where two actors play upwards of 50 roles between them, doing quick costume, accent, gender, and wig changes. Always popular in Spokane, 'Greater Tuna' will be performed by one of the actors who first performed it here, Michael Weaver, while the other role will go to Reed McColm. Weaver has acted in it many times, but it's a first for McColm, who is furiously studying his thousands of lines for the July 6 opening. McColm is a master of comic timing, the perfectly timed pause, the quick take, and the dry rejoinder. It will be interesting to see how he performs in a show that has a lightning-speed rhythm. Interplayers hopes this will be a fitting tribute to David Gigler, who will be mentioned at the beginning of each performance. Special thanks to Vince Bozzi for this report.
