Sophia Caruso and cast shine in Annie!

The sun comes out this Friday, May 18 as 'Annie,' starring Sophia Caruso, and a fabulous cast of kids, adults and dogs opens at the Spokane Civic Theatre. The show runs on the Main Stage through June 17. The final dress rehearsal last evening was phenomenal. This is a show you don't want to miss. Director Yvonne A.K. Johnson has done a magnificent job of bringing over 200 people, including a cast of 40, together to stage this magical musical.

Sophia, a veteran actress already at age 11, is poised, confident and immensely talented in this performance. Her vocals are strong and clear and her acting is exceptional. The other 10 girls who play the orphans are very talented as well. The adults including Mark Pleasant as 'Daddy Warbucks' and Phedre Burney-Quimby as Mrs. Hannigan, are outstanding.

Curtain Times are Thurs, Fri, Sat: 7:30 pm, Sun: 2:00 pm. Go to www.spokanecivictheatre.com for information and tickets.

Adrienne Bousquet is best Bloomsday entertainer

The Bloomsday crowd may have been tired after cresting Doomsday Hill, but it appears they weren't too tired to appreciate vocalist Adrienne Bousquet's 'Sequins and Sinatra' performance near the six-mile point. Bousquet, who was at the corner of Lindeke and Gardner, moved up a notch from her second place showing last year to claim the title of Best Bloomsday Entertainer in the ninth annual contest among performers along the 12-kilometer course.

Bousquet's victory came in spite of strong showings by indie rock band Black Gingham and soloist Tori Whitten, who finished second and third. Black Gingham performed during the first mile of the route, while Tori Whitten was on Ft. George Wright Drive just before the TJ Meenach Bridge.

Whatever their preference in entertainment, Bloomsday runners, joggers, walkers and wheelers seemed to enjoy the performances, as they cast 1,274 votes this year for the nearly 30 performers on the course.
